Consumers increasingly read ingredient lists, and “sugar” is one of the first words they look for. Date powder lets food manufacturers sweeten products with a single, familiar ingredient: dates.
What is date powder?
Date powder is made from whole dates that are dehydrated and finely ground. Nothing is added: no carrier, no anti-caking agent, no refined sugar. Because it is simply dried fruit, it keeps the natural sweetness of the date together with its dietary fibre and minerals. On a label, it appears as “dates” or “date powder”.
Our date powder is made from Tunisian Deglet Nour and Kentichi dates, with a standard granulation of 300–800 µm that can be customized to your process.
Why manufacturers use it
- Clean label: one ingredient that consumers recognize, instead of refined sugar or syrups.
- Whole-fruit nutrition: unlike white sugar, it keeps the fibre and minerals of the fruit.
- Easy handling: as a dry powder it is simple to dose, store and add to dry mixes.
Where it works best
- Bakery and pastry: cookies, muffins, cakes and breads, where its natural sweetness is an advantage.
- Granola, cereals and bars: it blends easily with oats, nuts and seeds, and works well in energy and chocolate bars.
- Powder blends: breakfast mixes, baking mixes and other dry formulations.
- Food formulations: as a natural sweetening ingredient in a wide range of recipes.
Practical tips for formulation
- Start with a partial replacement. Replace part of the sugar first, test, then increase. Date powder is less intensely sweet than refined sugar, so the right level depends on your product.
- Expect some texture from the fibre. Date powder does not dissolve completely like sugar. That is usually an advantage in baked goods and bars, but in drinks a finer granulation works better.
- Adjust liquids. The fibre absorbs some moisture, so doughs and batters may need a small adjustment.
- Plan for colour. Products become slightly darker and more golden, which suits most bakery and snack applications.
- Store it dry. Like most fruit powders, date powder can clump in humid conditions. Keep packs sealed; our date powder has a shelf life of 24 months when stored chilled.
Choosing the right granulation
Granulation affects texture and how easily the powder blends. A finer powder gives a smoother result in blends and fillings, while a coarser grade suits bakery and cereal products. Because every process is different, we adjust granulation within our 300–800 µm range to your requirements.
